East and West fusion musical extravaganza rocks Mangalore - Infant Jesus Joyland School

East met west yesterday at the Ashirwad Joyland Silver Jubilee Hall in Bolar Mangaluru at a musical extravaganza hosted by David and Frances Pinto and their school Infant Jesus Joyland School and coordinated by Sachitha Nandagopal, Director, Centre for Integrated Learning and vivaciously compered by Distinguished Toastmaster, Dr Malini Hebbar. Locally born, internationally acclaimed pianist Marialena Fernandes from Austria and flautist Amina from Hungary, blended smoothly, like aged whisky with the newly formed local folk music troupe Kudla Drum Jammers which included many youngsters. There were solo performances, blended performances and spontaneous performances by all the artists, including 6-year-old Ananya Pai who rendered beautifully the old Bollywood song Ajeeb Dastan hai yeh and Yash Alva who rendered John Lennon’s immortal song, Imagine. There was dancing too, with a sizeable portion of the audience participating in an impromptu interactive dance session towards the end towards a Tulu folk song sung by Ramdas and a Baila song by Zena Pereira.
