Delegates, artists and dignitaries from all over the world graced the grand celebration of Tulu language, art and culture. Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr Veerendra Heggade, Bishop of Mangaluru Diocese Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, NRI Entrepreneur Dr B R Shetty, Educationist and Cultural czar, Dr. Mohan Alva, Bishop Henry D’Souza of Bellary diocese, ministers UT Khadar, Jayamala, NRI entrepreneur and philanthropist Ronald Colaco, MP Veerappa Moily and others participated in the inauguration held at Al Nasr Leisure land Ice Rink.
Uniquely all the dignitaries including the two Bishops and Minister UT Khader spoke in Tulu and this was appreciated by none other than Dr Mohan Alva and Dr B R Shetty when they addressed the gathering. Among other cultural events, there was a brilliant performance of Tulu Nadu's favourite folk dance - the Pili Vesha dance.
The valedictory on November 24th was graced by Odiyoor seer Gurudevananda Swamiji, Puttige seer Sugunendra Theertha and Manila seer Mohandas Paramahamsa Swamiji, Bollywood Star Sunil Shetty, Sandalwood Music Director Gurukiran as guests of honour.
The two-day festival saw a host of Tulu cultural events which enthralled the nearly 5000 plus delegates who witnessed it. The aim of the Sammelan was to preserve and nurture and promote the Tulu language and and Tulunad culture which it did in grand style. It was entertainment with a message. Rasamanjari, Tulunada Gobbulu, Naatya Ayona, drama, Yakshagana, comedy skits etc were prime attractions.
Well-known comperes from India, Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli, Sahil Rai, Naveen Shetty, Priya Harish Shetty, Karnire Mohan Rai, Kadri Navaneet Shetty, Dayananda Kathalsar, and Ashok Pakkala hosted the events.
The President of UAE Tuluvas, Sarvotham Shetty was the chief convener of the ‘Vishwa Tulu Sammelana 2018’ Dubai. It was organized in association with various cultural organizations in Dubai. Shodhan Prasad was the Event Manager, while Ganesh Rai handled the souvenirs. Newskarnataka.com, Karnataka's premier pan Karnataka website, initiated and run by Tuluvas from Mangaluru, was the natural media partner for this mega event.
While more than 5000 Tuluvas from all over the world descended on Dubai to witness this unique programme, there were those from among the nearly 40 lakh Tuluvas in Tulunadu (the erstwhile South Canara comprising an area of 10,432 Sq. km stretching from Kundapura to Kasargod, which is now spread now over three districts in two states) that could not make it for a variety of reasons including logistics, and for them Newskarnataka.com the popular pan Karnataka news website based out of Mangaluru, the Vishwa Tulu Sammelana Media partner hosted the event live on its webpage and Facebook page and received wide appreciation for the same.
